What's the difference between an innerspring and a hybrid mattress?
An innerspring uses a base of coils as its foundation, and the coils are topped with a comfort layer that’s typically thinner than a hybrid mattress. A hybrid features springs as well, but the springs are topped with a thick comfort layer made of latex or foam. Innerspring mattresses are usually less expensive, bouncier, and firmer than hybrid mattresses, which relieve pressure points, contour to the body, and usually cost more.
Are innerspring mattresses good for side sleepers? Stomach sleepers? Heavier people?
Innerspring mattresses work best for stomach and back sleepers and for people who run hot, since the firmer, more responsive surface keeps the spine supported without excess sinkage. Side sleepers may want a model with a plusher comfort layer or added coil zoning at the shoulders and hips to avoid pressure buildup. Heavier individuals (over 240 lbs) generally do well with innerspring mattresses that use a higher coil count and thicker gauge steel for added support.
What does coil gauge mean in a mattress?
Steel wire is used to make the coils in a mattress, and gauge is a measurement of the wire’s thickness. The lower the number, the thicker the wire. Mattress coils are usually between 12 and 18 gauge. Typically, inner spring mattresses with thinner wire have more coils to compensate. Quiet Night uses 13-gauge coils to ensure a strong foundation, then pads those coils with a variety of foams for a supported, yet soft sleeping surface.
How thick should an innerspring mattress be?
Most innerspring mattresses range from 8 to 14 inches thick, with the coil layer typically making up 6 to 8 inches of that total. Thicker mattresses (12+ inches) generally include a deeper comfort layer for more cushioning, while thinner models rely more directly on the coil support. You can see from the thickness of Monarch Rest’s innerspring mattresses that we generously and fully pad our comfort layer.
How long do innerspring mattresses last?
With care and maintenance, an innerspring mattress can last 7 to 10 years, though much depends on the quality coil gauge and construction. Innerspring mattresses built with high-gauge coils have a longer life than those using less-firm budget coils. For this reason, we use quality materials to craft Quiet Night.
Can you flip an innerspring mattress?
Only if it's specifically designed to be double-sided. Make sure to check the care label or product details, because attempting to flip a one-sided mattress can damage the comfort layer. Quiet Night Duo is an innerspring mattress designed to be flipped regularly.
Can you use an innerspring mattress on an adjustable base?
Traditional innerspring mattresses generally aren't recommended for adjustable bases, since the coil structure isn't designed to bend and will be damaged by repeated flexing at the head and foot. While Quiet Night is not ideal for an adjustable base, we do offer foam mattresses like Conforma, Fuchsia, and Integrity that work well for this application.
What firmness level should I choose for an innerspring mattress?
Most people will rest well with a medium-firm mattress, which balances support and pressure relief. Back and stomach sleepers often find comfort in firmer options that align the body, while side sleepers may want something softer, like the Quiet Night Luxe, to cushion the shoulders and hips.
Do innerspring mattresses come with a trial period or warranty?
Monarch Rest’s Quiet Night innerspring mattresses come with a 20-year warranty that covers workmanship defects or component failures, including impressions exceeding ½ inch (for the first 7 years) and impressions exceeding 1 inch (for the last 13 years). See the full warranty for details.
What size innerspring mattress do I need?
Twin and Twin XL work well for children, teens, or single sleepers in smaller rooms. For single sleepers who want space to stretch out, Full mattresses offer plenty of room. Queen and King mattresses are standard for most couples, while California King, at 84” long, is ideal for tall people. Make sure you know the size of both your room and your bed frame before purchasing an innerspring mattress–especially if you plan to take it up stairs–as they can be harder to maneuver and don’t bend as easily as foam or latex options.
