What is a natural mattress?
A natural mattress is one that uses natural materials rather than lab-created options. Due to sensitivities or preferences, some people prefer to sleep on all-natural materials. We created Chrysalis for those who wish to sleep on cozy wool and naturally occurring Talalay latex.
What does wool do for a mattress?
It adds a soft feel to the surface and helps regulate temperature. Wool is warmer in cold weather and breathable in warm conditions, so the mattress stays comfortable from season to season.
Does wool affect how supportive a mattress is?
No, the wool is part of the comfort layer and affects feel and breathability, not the structural support, which comes from the layers below. Chrysalis has a solid foundation of encased coils.
Will the wool layer wear out or flatten over time?
Wool is a natural fiber that can compress and soften with years of use. This affects the surface plushness but not the mattress’s overall support.
Does wool make a mattress hot to sleep on?
Not typically. Wool is breathable and helps to regulate temperature. Combining wool with encased coils allows for plenty of air flow.
Does a natural mattress come with a warranty?
Monarch Rest’s natural mattress, Chrysalis, is backed by a 20-year warranty covering defects in workmanship or components, including impressions exceeding ½ inch (first 10 years) or exceeding 1 inch (second 10 years). See the complete warranty for details.
Is the Chrysalis natural mattress a hybrid mattress?
Yes, the Chrysalis mattress is crafted with a foundation of encased coils and padded with Talalay latex and wool, making it a hybrid mattress.
What are encased coils? Why do hybrids use them?
Encased coils are individual springs in their own fabric pocket, which allows them to compress and expand independently, instead of as a unit. Hybrid mattress manufacturers use encased coils because they reduce motion transfer between sleepers.
Do hybrid mattresses use memory foam or latex?
Hybrid mattresses can use either, or sometimes a combination of both, in their comfort layer. Memory foam hybrids offer closer body contouring and a slower, more cushioned feel, while latex hybrids respond more quickly, sleep cooler, and tend to last longer. Since the Chrysalis is an all-natural mattress, it uses natural Talalay latex in its comfort layer.
Do hybrid mattresses need to be rotated?
Yes, rotating a hybrid mattress 180 degrees every 3 to 6 months helps distribute wear evenly across both the coil base and the comfort layer, extending its lifespan. Most hybrids are one-sided and shouldn’t be flipped, since the comfort layer is only on one side. The Chrysalis Duo and Luxe, however, are both double-sided and can be flipped, with a full comfort layer on both sides.
Do hybrid mattresses have good motion isolation?
Hybrid mattresses with encased coils typically offer good motion isolation, since each coil compresses individually and the comfort layer helps to absorb motion.
